Punjab Technical University is situated at Jalandhar, in Punjab. PTU was established on 16 July, 1997 by an Act passed by state legislature. The purpose of the establishment is to provide advance education in the field of Technical, Management and Pharmaceutical in the state of Punjab.

Punjab Technical University (PTU) is a public university formed by the Government of Punjab to confer technical education in the state. PTU has been awarded with the approval to offer Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates under Section 3 of the University Act. All Council for Technical Education, AICTE, New Delhi has permitted the professional Post Graduate Degrees offered by the colleges/institutes affiliated to Punjab Technical University. Selection for the courses is based on the performance in state level entrance examination CET. PTU is a member of the Association of Indian Universities.
